Compared with electric actuators, pneumatic actuators execute very quickly, up to 0.05 seconds per time! Pneumatic actuators are divided into single-acting and double-acting according to different modes of action. These two types function differently and have distinct applications in the industry.

Let’s dive a little deeper, shall we? Double-acting actuators use air to both open and close the valve. If the air supply cuts off, the valve stays put until the air is back. Single-acting actuators, on the other hand, use air to move in one direction and a spring to return to the starting position. When the air supply stops, they automatically reset.

The double-acting actuator is mainly the air opening and air closing type, that is, the valve needs to use the air source whether it is opened or closed, which is usually manifested as the ventilation is opened, the ventilation is closed, the air source is lost, the valve remains in the state at the time, and the air source is reconnected, and the valve can continue to work.

The single-acting actuator has a spring return function. Normally open and normally closed can be selected according to the working conditions. Situation 1: When the ventilation is opened and the air source is lost, it will automatically reset to the initial closed state. Case 2: Ventilation is closed and when the air source is lost, it will automatically reset to the initial open state.

For applications where minimizing leaks is crucial, double-acting actuators are your go-to. In contrast, single-acting actuators shine in risky situations where you need quick action, closing or opening valves swiftly if the air supply fails.
